

IT education in Schools
In the present era of IT it is essential that the young students of the school are acquainted
with the latest technology and emerge out of the schools as IT literate.
It is now an accepted fact that the next century would be driven by Information Technology.
In order to ensure that the young citizens of Rajasthan do not has behind in terms of acquisition
of skills in Information Technology, it is necessary that the schools in the State start looking at
IT as an essential ingredient of education. In addition to the exposure to the fundamental of
computer and internet, it is suggested that Information Technology also be used as a tool in
imparting the skill transfer of other conventional subjects like Basic Science and Social Sciences
through the use of modern IT based techniques like CD-ROM, multimedia etc.
With the perspective to create awareness, Information Technology, has been introduced as an
additional subject in Classes IX to XII in the current session of all the schools in the State with
private participation. Presently it has been implemented as optional subject for Class XI-XII in
652 schools.
Computer Literacy And Studies in Schools (CLASS)
CLASS project is being implemented on contract basis by selecting an implementing agency.
Presently, 202 schools are being covered under this project. Education Department has submitted a
proposal to expand this scheme
IT education in Colleges
Information Technology has been introduced as a core subject in college curriculum with
active private sector participation throughout the state with the introduction of IT as an
additional compulsory subject.
Information Technology has been introduced as a core compulsory subject in Graduation in the
Faculty of Science and Commerce, and has been successfully implemented for the second consecutive
year in all the Universities of Rajasthan.
IT Centres in all ITI's / Polytechnics
The State Government is focused towards developing such competencies through special focus
on rural areas. Computer training facilities will be established in all the 237 Panchyati Samiti
HQs in the State. This shall be through active collaboration with the private sector. Rajasthan
would be the first State to undertake such a comprehensive statewide training program.
This would provide tremendous boost to IT Training sector. Also, this would expand the base of IT trained manpower that could subsequently be employed in the IT enabled services sector like call centers, database services, content development, medical transcription, etc. This would, in turn, help growth of this sector in the State.
IIIT in Rajasthan
The State Government is also actively working towards establishing an Indian Institute of
Information Technology (IIIT) in the State with private sector participation. The State Government
is ready to provide land on cost free basis as well as Rs. 10 Crores towards construction of
building. This would facilitate imparting of quality education and higher learning courses as per
the demands of the Industry.
